Lionel Messi, one of the greatest footballers of all time, recently received a threatening note from gunmen in his hometown of Rosario, Argentina. The note was left for him after a food store owned by the family of his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, was attacked, and read: "Messi, we are waiting for you. Javkin (Pablo Javkin, mayor of Rosario) is a drug Dealer. He's not going to take care of you."

According to team coach Gabriel Heinz, the incident has made Messi's return to his boyhood club, Newell's Old Boys, unlikely. Heinz said the attack would drive away not only Messi but other players as well, as it posed a risk to their safety and that of their families.

Messi's contract with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) expires in the summer, and he is yet to sign an extension. However, a recent report suggests that the 35-year-old has rejected the option of returning to Argentina or playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States. Instead, he is looking to continue playing at the highest level in Europe, shining for PSG in the current campaign after an ordinary first season in Paris.

Despite the incident, Messi will continue to focus on his career and the upcoming matches with PSG, including Saturday's match against Nantes in Ligue 1. It remains to be seen what the future holds for Messi beyond his current contract with PSG, but one thing is for sure: his safety and the safety of his family must come first.
