BAN VS IRE Dream11 prediction today: Fantasy cricket tips for Bangladesh vs Ireland 1st ODI match

 8:57 PM

Right then, that's it from the coverage of this game. The two side will meet again for the second ODI on 20th March. The first ball will be at 1.30 pm IST (8 am GMT), but as you all know, you can join us early for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

8:54 PM

Tamim Iqbal, the victorious skipper is in for a chat. He says the way they batted was exceptional as the surface had something for the bowlers early on. He adds that Shakib Al Hasan was brilliant and also special recognization to Mushfiqur Rahim as he came in and went on a counter from ball 1 which is not easy. He also adds that the first 20-25 overs, the surface was on a slower side and this is why the batting needs to be applauded. Credits Mushfiqur Rahim for his work behind the sticks and informs that the team has complete faith in him. On his bowling unit he says Taskin Ahmed is a world class bowler and Ebadot Hossain is not far from being one.

8:51 PM

Towhid Hridoy wins the Man of the Match award for his exception outing with the bat on debut. He starts by thanking the almighty. Informs that he is hurt a bit as he could not get a ton on his debut but then he is extremely happy about his innings. Mentions that Mushfiqur Rahim helped him a lot in the middle to remain calm. Adds that he just tried to execute his plans and that worked wonderfully for him.

8:50 PM

Andy Balbirnie, the skipper of Ireland is in for a chat. He starts by saying that at the half-way stage they felt that this was a total they could chase and also the wicket was better but the batters failed to click after the opening stand was broken. He also adds that the team was a bit of unaware about the surroundings but no excuses and hopes that they will be way better in the next game. He closes by saying that they want to compete and beat teams like Bangladesh on a regular basis.

8:47 PM

Stay tuned for the presentation...

8:47 PM

Earlier in the innings, Bangladesh kept losing early wickets. They were three down inside the Powerplay 1, but Shakib Al Hasan and Towhid Hridoy took the game to the opposition. Both the batters though slipped out in their 90s. Mushfiqur Rahim's cameo of 44 runs down the order really cause a lot of harm to this Ireland side. Later, the lower-middle order contributed a little bit to record Bangladesh's highest ever score in ODI cricket. Eventually, it was a bit too much for Ireland.

8:45 PM

Bangladesh bowlers were on fire from the word go. The Ireland openers were able to deal the seamers quite easily with the new ball in hand, to change the trajectory of the match, Tamim Iqbal decided to bring the Nasum Ahmed very early in the Powerplay 1. Still, the Irish batters were scoring runs comfortably. But once, Shakib Al Hasan and Nasum Ahmed started working in tandem, the run flow was certainly halted. Shakib Al Hasan drew the first blood and that opened the floodgates, which Bangladesh capitalized on. It was the seam bowlers who benefitted the most, as Taskin Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain combined for 6 wickets, off which four belonged to the latter. Nasum Ahmed picked up three wickets, when he took care of the tail-enders. Also, all of this couldn't have been possible without Mushfiqur Rahim behind the sticks. The veteran was a vital asset, as he held on to 5 catches in the entire innings. Overall, it was a complete bowling performance from the Bangladesh unit.

8:37 PM

Chasing 339 that too in Bangladesh is always going to be a tough ask, nonetheless, Ireland got off to a promising start. The runs were not coming in quickly early on, but it was all about assessing the conditions. Paul and Stephen did just that and they put their feet on the gas at the back end of Powerplay 1. The openers set a solid platform up top with a 60-run opening stand, although it went downhill ever since this stand was broken. Ireland lost the remaining 9 wickets for just 95 runs. This is a big concern for Ireland. They surely need their middle-order batters to step up in the next encounter. It was only George Dockrell who tried to force an issue here with his knock of 45 runs.

8:34 PM

What a dominating performance from the hosts. Bangladesh have take an early lead in this ODI and that too quite convincingly. Ireland will head back to the drawing board and try to come back stronger in the next outing.

OUT! CLEANED HIM UP! Fuller delivery in the line of stumps, George Dockrell looks to clear his front leg and loft this over mid off but misses out on this and the ball has crashed into the stumps. It is all over as Bangladesh has won this by a margin of 183 runs.

Bangladesh will square off against Ireland in the first ODI of the three-match series on Saturday (March 18). The match will be played at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet and will begin at 1:30 PM IST.

Tamim Iqbal’s Bangladesh are coming into this series with a lot of confidence after beating the English side in a three-match T20I series. In the ODI series, the Tigers performed well against England but had to lose the series by 2-1. Bangladesh’s star allrounder, Mahmudullah will not be playing in the first two ODIs against Ireland.

On the other hand, Andy Balbirnie led Ireland are coming into the series after a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe in their last ODI series. The visitors have some quality players like Paul Stirling, Harry Tector, and Andy Balbirnie who will give extra support to the squad. Ireland are performing well in their recent ODI series and will be looking forward to start their tour of Bangladesh with a win.

WPL 2023: UP Warriorz end Mumbai Indians' streak, chase down 128 in final over

UP Warriorz snapped formidable Mumbai Indians' winning run in the Women's Premier League with a five-wicket victory, after the Uttar Pradesh side extracted more out of a tricky pitch here on Saturday.

On a surface where the ball turned a lot and was also holding up, England's star left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone (3/15) led the way with her excellent bowling as UP Warriorz bundled out Mumbai Indians for 127.

When MI batted, as many as 18 of the 20 overs were bowled by spinners, a WPL record. In reply, UPW faced some obstacles before competing the task with three balls to spare. Grace Harris (39) and Tahlia McGrath (38) were the main contributors with the bat for UPW, while Deepti Sharma (13 not out) and player of the match Ecclestone (16 not out) also played vital knocks.

UPW lost Devika Vaidya with just one run on the board at the start of the second over. While the successful bowler was Hayley Matthews, most of the credit for the dismissal must got to Harmanpreet Kaur, who pulled off a sensational catch at first slip after the batter got a thick outside edge.

Issy Wong picked up the big wicket of UPW captain Alyssa Healy (8), trapping her in front of the wicket. The on-field umpire was not convinced despite the huge appeal and MI's move to go for a referral proved to be the right call, leaving the Australian star with no option but to walk back into the dugout.

Defending a small but tricky total on this surface, MI found another reason to celebrate when Yastika Bhatia completed a fantastic one-handed diving catch behind the wicket off the bowling of Nat Sciver-Brunt to send back Kiran Navgire for 12, for which she consumed 16 balls.

UPW were in a spot of bother at 27 for 3 in the beginning of seventh over, when Grace Harris got off the mark with a boundary.

Even as MI picked up three wickets quickly but they were also guilty of dropping three catches, which proved to be crucial in the end.

In the company of Harris, Tahlia McGrath stroked her way to a 25-ball 38 before Amelia Kerr had her caught and bowled. But Harris hit two successive fours on three occasions, after McGrath's dismissal, to reduce the gap.

There was another twist after Kerr dismissed Harris at a crucial juncture, but UPW held their nerves to emerge winners. Earlier, had it not been for Issy Wong's 19-ball 32, MI would have ended with much less than what they eventually got.

After their skipper Alyssa Healy opted to field first, the UP Warriorz bowlers did a commendable job to keep things tight and take wickets at regular intervals against the strong Mumbai batting line-up.

MI were 56 for two at the end of the 10th over with Hayley Matthews (35) and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (25) looking to build a partnership after the departure of Yastika Bhatia (5) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (7).

However, both Hayley and Kaur got out after getting starts, the India captain falling to compatriot Deepti Sharma after the former was done in by the seasoned Ecclestone. Amelia Kerr (3) lasted just five balls before being sent back by Rajeshwari Gayakwad, as the Warriorz reduced Mumbai Indians to 78 for five at the start of the 14th over.

Amanjot Kaur, too, failed to make an impression with the bat as she also fell to the wily Ecclestone, who had by then picked up three wickets in as many over at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy.

While Ecclestone did bulk of the damage, the others supported her well and made MI work hard for every run. India player Gayakwad also had a good outing, returning with fine figures of two for 16 from her full quota of four overs. Deepti finished with figures of 2/34.

While MI fielded the same XI in the match, UP decided to include young Parshavi Chopra in place of Shweta Sehrawat.

S Sreesanth has opined that CSK will not win IPL 2023

He is backing RCB to lift the IPL 2023 trophy

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season is less than two weeks away and the preparations are in full swing for the season. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) kicked off their preparations a couple of weeks back and the majority of players have joined the camp. The other teams recently conducted the pre-season camps and are now gearing up for full-fledged preparations.

As the season is coming near, former cricketers and commentators have started picking their favourite teams. S Sreesanth has also made his pick and the former India pacer wants Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to lift the trophy.

Speaking to Sports Yaari, Sreesanth picked RCB to lift the trophy and opined that he doesn't think that CSK have a chance. "I don't think so (that CSK will win IPL 2023). There is only one Mallu captain - Sanju Samson - I am supporting them (Rajasthan Royals). But it would be fun if a new team wins. I would feel great if RCB win IPL 2023. Virat (Kohli) has done so much for Indian cricket...it would be great if RCB win," Sreesanth told Sports Yaari.

CSK were once the most consistent team in IPL and qualified for the second round of 10 back-to-back seasons. Their streak was halted in 2020. They made a strong comeback in IPL 2021 but crashed out from the league stage of IPL 2022.

Talking of RCB, they have been part of every IPL season but are yet to lift the trophy. Under Faf du Plessis, RCB made it to the second round of IPL 2022 but crashed out after losing to Rajasthan Royals in the 2nd Qualifier. They will enter the tournament as one of the favourites.

The Bengaluru-based franchise suffered a big blow before the start of IPL 2023 as its big-hitting batsman Will Jacks has been ruled out of the season. RCB have signed all-rounder Michael Bracewell as his replacement.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

Australian captain Steve Smith was seen yawning during the first ODI

Smith's picture went viral and was compared with former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed

Australia lost the series opener by 5 wickets in Mumbai

Team India won the first ODI against Australia by 5 wickets but the hosts had to fight to get a 1-0 lead as the Mumbai surface, which usually assists the batters, had something for the bowlers in it, especially the pacemen and both teams found a little tough to negotiate it. Team India too was reduced to 83/5 before KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja didn't let the Australian bowlers come into the game again. Stand-in captain Steve Smith tried everything, changed his bowlers around but to no use. As the chase was coming to an end after Rahul and Jadeja batted for more than 20 overs, Smith too felt the fatigue.

Standing in slips, Smith was seen yawning when India were just six runs away from their target. The image went viral on social media instantly as the fans remembered an iconic moment from four years ago. Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was caught yawning behind the stumps in the 2019 World Cup match against India and was receiving end of a lot of memes and angry reactions, especially from Pakistan fans.

Fans compared Smith to the ex-Pakistan captain and one even welcomed him to the "Sarfaraz Ahmed yawning academy." Here are some of the reactions:

Smith will be hoping for a better performance from his lads given that they take the field again in less than 24 hours. Apart from Mitchell Marsh, who scored a quickfire 81 (65), no other batter got a significant score and with the series on the line, the likes of Smith, Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell need to come to the party. If David Warner is fit, Australia will be mighty pleased even though they would have to make a tough selection call then but if the veteran left-hander is fit, he will come into the side straight away.

Harbhajan Singh gives epic reaction after Babar Azam picks Australia's BBL over IPL - see tweet

Harbhajan Singh came up with an epic reaction on Twitter after Babar Azam picked BBL as a better competition than the IPL. Harbhajan is an IPL legend who played 13 seasons before announcing his retirement from the game. He captained Mumbai Indians in the T20 league.

Harbhajan Singh came up with an epic reaction after Babar Azam picked BBL over IPL

Harbhajan is an IPL legend

Babar has never played the BBL

India legend Harbhajan Singh came up with an epic reaction on Twitter after Babar Azam picked Australia's Big Bash League (BBL) over the Indian Premier League (IPL). Babar hasn't featured in any of the T20 leagues thus far. While Pakistani players do play the BBL, they aren't allowed to play the Indian league.

During the ongoing Pakistan Super League, Babar was asked the million-dollar question about the T20 leagues and he picked BBL over IPL. Harbhajan took a note of it and gave an epic reaction.

BBL is also one of the top leagues in world cricket but it misses the star factor. The international teams don't have a break during the December-January window and many of the top players aren't available for the tournament. Even Australia's own players don't have a break during the BBL and hardly feature in it.

On the other hand, the majority of teams don't play international cricket during the IPL and players from across the globe come to India to feature in the league. Some players even miss international cricket to play IPL.

As far as pay is concerned, the players earn huge money by taking part in the Indian league. The salaries of top players in IPL are higher than what they earn in BBL.

Babar cannot feature in IPL but he can take part in BBL if his schedule allows him. The Pakistan captain is one of the busiest cricketers in world cricket and might not feature in the league till he is active in all three formats. BBL takes place in December-January. IPL takes place during the March-May window.

Rahul turned his form around in tremendous fashion coming off a lean run in Test cricket

Bollywood actress and his wife Athiya Shetty shared a heartwarming post for him after his fighting knock

KL Rahul made a brilliant comeback to form as he led Team India to a fighting 5-wicket win against Australia in the first ODI. Rahul came in to bat at a critical position when the hosts were reduced to 16/3 on a Mumbai track that was helping the seam bowlers. Even though the wickets kept falling at the other end till Ravindra Jadeja came in, Rahul remained solid and ground out a gritty match-winning knock of 75*. It was a welcome return to form for Rahul, who has been searching for runs, in the last few months. Rahul was left out of the Test team after scoring just 38 runs in three innings but he made sure that his one-day game wasn't affected and made merry at his favourite No. 5 spot.

Rahul stitched an unbeaten 108-run stand with Jadeja, who scored the winning runs as Team India overcame a horrible start to chase down 189 runs in the series opener. Rahul will be relieved to see runs flow from his bat after enduring a lean patch, especially in the longest format.

While cricketers Harbhajan Singh and Venkatesh Prasad led reactions to Rahul's mature knock, his wife and Bollywood actress Athiya Shetty too came up with an adorable post for her husband. Sharing the video of him raising his bat after completing the half-century, Shetty wrote, "To the most resilient person I know... @klrahul."
