A jury finds disbarred lawyer Alex Murdaugh guilty in the deaths of his wife and son

A South Carolina jury has found disbarred attorney Alex Murdaugh guilty on all counts in the deaths of his wife and son. The 54-year-old was convicted on two counts of murder and two counts of using a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Murdaugh used a rifle to kill his wife, Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and a shotgun to kill his son Paul, 22, on the night of June 7, 2021, at the family's hunting estate in South Carolina. Murdaugh, who belongs to one of the most prominent families in the state, had been an influential attorney before he was disbarred. He faces a sentence of 30 years to life in prison for each murder conviction, with sentencing scheduled for Friday. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.
